Question:

117 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if he will outline, (1) whether vocational education committees have been informed of their financial allocation for 1992, (2) the overall allocation as compared with that of 1991, (3) the largest and smallest allocations to individual vocational education committees, giving details of the name of the vocational education committee and the comparable figures for 1991 and (4) whether there is a guideline as to when individual schools are told of their allocation in a given calender year.

In regard to (1) the 1992 financial allocations to vocational education committees have not yet been finalised but will issue as soon as possible.

In regard to (2) the overall financial provisions for vocational education committees under Vote 28 (Second-Level and Further Education), Subhead F in 1991 and 1992 are as follows:—

In regard to (3) the largest and smallest financial allocations in 1991 were as follows:—
(i) City of Dublin vocational education committee £19,895,300.
(ii) Town of Sligo vocational education committee £588,602.
In regard to (4) the financial allocations are made on a global basis to each vocational education committee for their schemes. It is a matter for the vocational education committees to determine the allocations for the individual schools in their vocational education committees. There are no set guidelines by the Department as to when vocational education committees should notify financial allocations to individual schools.
