Vol. 416 No. 3

Written Answers. - Malahide (Dublin) Foreshore Licence.

Nora Owen

Question:

14 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for the Marine if he has made a final decision on a marina application for a foreshore licence in Malahide, County Dublin.

Five foreshore leases were sought from my Department in respect of a major marina-related project at Malahide. One of these applications related to a marina site.

In May 1991 following full consideration of all the proposals, leases were offered in respect of four of the sites, but in so far as the marina application was concerned, it was made clear that, while the Minister would agree, in principle, to the issue of such a lease, this would be subject to satisfactory completion of a public consultation process.
While major progress has been made in the meantime with finalising the technical and legal aspects of the four leases offered, the legal formalities have not yet been completed. The public consultation process in relation to the marina proper, which was linked to the completion of the four leases offered, has not yet been initiated. Contacts are continuing with the promoters of the project with a view to progressing the proposals as expeditiously as possible.
Accordingly, no final decision has been taken on this application.
