Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Leitrim School Staffing.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

256 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Education if he will clarify the position regarding students who wish to repeat sixth class at primary school level and in particular the situation appertaining at a school (details supplied) in County Leitrim.

The staffing of a national school is determined by the valid enrolment in the school on the 30 September of the previous year.

Pupils who have completed sixth standard in a national school should transfer to a post-primary school in accordance with accepted practice. Only in exceptional circumstances will such pupils, if retained in a national school, be considered to be validly enrolled for staffing and other purposes.

The matter in relation to such enrolments in Drumshanbo central national school, where 12 pupils enrolled in a repeat 6th class on the 30 September 1991, has been taken up with the management board.
