Vol. 416 No. 6

Written Answers. - Border River Drainage Works.

Dinny McGinley

Question:

43 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Finance if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Northern Ireland authorities are draining the Fermanagh portion of the Bradog river; if he will outline his views on the effect this will have on the landowners on the Donegal portion of the river; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

From inquires to the Northern Ireland drainage authorities, I understand that they are not at present carrying out drainage works on the Bradog river in County Fermanagh, but that the riparian landowners have initiated a scheme of drainage works themselves. The Commissioners of Public Works have received no recent complaints of flooding in the area and in the absence of any survey data have no information on the conditions there. I am not in a position to comment on what effect, if any, these works will have on the small area of the catchment which lies in Donegal.
