Vol. 416 No. 7

Written Answers. - Supplementary Welfare Application.

Tony Gregory

Question:

114 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will re-examine the request of a person (details supplied) in Dublin 7 for supplementary welfare to augment his £36 per week strike pay during the four weeks RTE dispute for a family of five persons which was already refused on the basis that the family could apply for a credit union loan.

Under the provisions of the supplementary welfare allowance scheme the determination of applications for assistance is a matter for each health board.

It is understood from the Eastern Health Board, who are responsible for administration of the scheme in the Dublin area, that the application from the person concerned was refused on the grounds of means. However, having reviewed the matter, the board have now established that the person in question has an entitlement to supplementary welfare allowance and the board have undertaken to contact him with a view to making the appropriate payment.
