Vol. 417 No. 1

Written Answers. - Uninsured Driving.

Ivor Callely

Question:

225 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the measures which are being considered to strengthen the legal framework for more effective enforcement of the law when a person has a vehicle on the road without insurance; if he has considered impounding the vehicle; whether he has received any submissions on same; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Proposals for amendments of the road traffic Acts, including proposals to strengthen the powers of the garda to deal with uninsured driving, are being finalised in my Department. The impounding of vehicles where certain offences have been committed is among the issues being considered.
