Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Optical Treatment.

Bernard Allen

Question:

130 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health the reason persons (details supplied) in County Cork have been refused optical treatment by the Southern Health Board even though their widowed mother has a medical card, and the reasons she has been refused optical treatment also.

I understand from the Southern Health Board that both persons were seen at the Cork Regional Hospital on 1 June 1989 and were sent a recall appointment in July 1989 which they did not attend. If they require further treatment application should be made through their general practitioner.

With regard to their mother, the Southern Health Board have no record of her having been refused treatment or on a present waiting list for treatment. If she requires routine treatment she should make an application through her general practitioner. All applications for emergency treatment are dealt with immediately by the health board.
