141 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for the Environment if an application has been received from Macroom Urban District Council for route lighting on the national primary route through the town for 1992, and if he will make a statement on the matter.
My Department and the ESB have developed a programme for the systematic replacement of obsolete lanterns and fittings on national roads and this programme will be applied to Macroom in 1992. Having regard to the level of funds available for road improvements, and the competing demands for such funds, it is not possible to provide a grant in 1992 for the extension of the traffic route lighting scheme as requested by the local authority.
