Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Cork Regional Veterinary Laboratory.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

175 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the Cork Regional Veterinary Laboratory is unable to operate properly for lack of staff as the senior veterinary inspector who retired has not been replaced; if his attention has further been drawn to the fact that this situation is causing major loss and inconvenience to farmers in Cork and Kerry; if he will take steps to fill the vacancy immediately; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The post of senior research officer in the Cork Regional Veterinary Laboratory which became vacant as a result of a retirement has been filled by another officer on an acting basis. I will be considering the matter further taking account of the findings of a report on the Department's laboratories prepared by my Department and the Department of Finance.
