Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Forestry Development Encroachment.

Dick Spring

Question:

18 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Energy if he will introduce regulations immediately to prevent forestry development from encroaching on family farms and rural dwellings.

My Department is under instruction to ensure that forestry development does not encroach on family farm households and rural dwellings. Each case is considered on its merits, and in any case grant-aid is not available for planting within 30 metres of an occupied dwelling or associated building. I would like to assure the Deputy that it is my policy that forestry development will be compatible with the rural environment.
