Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Departmental Advisers.

John V. Farrelly

Question:

83 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the following details in respect of the advisers appointed by his Department: (a) salary, (b) conditions of employment, (c) pension entitlements/annuities, (d) travelling expenses and (e) specific duties to be performed by these people; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

One adviser has been appointed by my Department. The position regarding parts, (a) to (e) of the question is as follows: (a) £16,884; (b) and (c) the officer is a serving civil servant and, as such is governed by the terms and conditions which apply in the Civil Service with the exception of the provisions governing extra attendance. In this case, an allowance of £1,116 is payable in lieu of all extra attendance which may arise in the course of the officer's assignment; (d) travelling expenses are payable in accordance with Civil Service regulations and (e) specific duties of the post involve (1) corresponding and liaising with outside bodies in relation to various matters put forward for my consideration, and (2) advising on the issues which arise therefrom.

I am satisfied that the post of adviser is necessary and that the functions of the post are performed in an efficient and effective manner.
