Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Limerick Tax Payment.

Michael Finucane

Question:

85 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline, as a result of warrants issued to the sheriff for County Limerick, the amount of revenue received in relation to (1) VAT, (2) PAYE/PRSI and (3) income tax for each of the years 1989 to 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the amounts paid over to the Collector-General by the sheriff for County Limerick are as follows:

Year

VAT

PAYE/PRSI

Income Tax

£

£

£

1989

2,027,976

1,651,300

463,824

1990

2,292,751

1,491,490

550,981

1991

1,985,852

1,796,875

545,695

It is estimated that, in addition to those amounts, an equivalent amount was paid direct to the Collector-General by taxpayers as a result of pressure from the sheriff.
