Vol. 417 No. 2

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Tariffs.

John Bruton

Question:

98 Mr. J. Bruton and Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Energy the implications for Ireland of the decisions of the European Court in regard to natural gas tariffs on 2 February 1988 and 11 October 1989 in regard to preferential prices offered to certain consumers of natural gas and electricity in Ireland.

Both Bord Gáis Éireann and the ESB comply fully with their obligations under the Price Transparency Directive in force since July last, and no difficulties have arisen as a result. As to any further implications of the decisions referred to on pricing of gas or electricity here, the Deputies will appreciate that this would be a matter of legal conjecture and that I cannot comment on it.
