Question:

120 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education the total cost of the site investigation to draw up plans, etc., for the national indoor stadium; and if he will specify the person or persons who drew up the plans.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 114, 115 and 120 together. The Custom House Docks Development Authority were appointed as my Department's development agent for the procurement of the national indoor sports centre. The Authority, in consultation with my Department, prepared a detailed brief as a basis for seeking offers from consortia to design, construct, part-finance and operate the centre. Design plans for the sports centre are not available as the project did not reach the stage where design proposals were available from the consortia.

Fees to the Custom House Docks Development Authority in respect of site acquisition, site management, site security and preparation of the development brief, including fees paid to consultants appointed by the Authority, amounted to £1.38 million.

It would not be appropriate at this stage to indicate the expenditure to date on land acquisition in view of the need for confidentiality in these matters.
