Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - School Assessment Policy.

William Cotter

Question:

215 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education if he will outline, (a) his policy with regard to school based assessment at post-primary level and (b) the current status of the implementation of that policy; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

A working party, under the chairmanship of Dr. Thomas Murphy, chairman of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment, is currently examining the question of suitable modes of assessment for practical, project, aural and oral work forming part of the various subjects of the junior certificate curriculum.

It is expected that the committee will report during the summer. I do not propose to make any statement on this matter until I have considered the views of the committee in full.
