Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Academic Contracts Negotiations.

Bernard Allen

Question:

239 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he will make a statement regarding the up-to-date status of the negotiations being carried out on academic contracts between his Department, the medical schools and the Irish Hospitals Consultants Association; and if he will indicate when these talks will conclude.

The Department of Health, in consultation with the Department of Education, Comhairle na hOspidéal, the Higher Education Authority and representatives of the five medical schools has been examining the arrangements which need to be made to have the terms of the revised consultants' contract applied to full-time academic consultants. This process has now been completed and proposals will be put to the Irish Medical Organisation and the Irish Hospital Consultants Association before the end of March.
