Written Answers. - Dublin School Therapy Services.

Mervyn Taylor

Question:

258 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Health if he will have arrangements made for the provision of essential services of a speech therapist and psychologist at Scoil Mochua, also known as the Round Tower Special School, Clondalkin in County Dublin; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Irish Association of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus who operate Scoil Mochua received a grant from the Eastern Health Board of £51,000 in 1991 of which £34,000 was in respect of therapy services at Scoil Mochua.

The Eastern Health Board have received no request from the association for a grant for the provision of a speech therapy service. Children who require speech therapy attend the local health board clinic.

With regard to a psychology service, the National Rehabilitation Board provide a psychological assessment service for school leavers in Scoil Mochua. The board have also indicated to the school that it will endeavour where possible, to provide a psychological service to particular children requiring it.
