Question:

402 Mr. Noonan (Limerick East) asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give details of the number of people employed in meat export plants at the end of, (a) March and (b) September for each of the past ten years.

Quarterly figures of industrial employment published by the Central Statistics Office show total numbers engaged in the slaughtering and preserving of meat in premises employing three or more persons. These figures do not distinguish between the domestic and export sides of the industry.

End-year numbers for the years 1982 to 1991 are as follows:
