Vol. 417 No. 9
330 Mr. Wyse asked the Minister for Labour the total number of working days lost in the city and county of Cork from, (a) official strikes and (b) unofficial strikes in the years (1) 1989, (2) 1990 and (3) 1991.
The Central Statistics Office is the official source of statistics relating to industrial disputes but their published data do not differentiate between official and unofficial disputes. Estimates of industrial disputes are recorded by my Department on an individual company basis. From an examination of those records, an estimate of the number of days lost for companies located in the city and county of Cork for 1989, 1990 and 1991 in respect of official and unofficial strikes is given in the table below. It should be noted that these statisitics cover days lost arising from strikes in companies located in Cork but do not include data in respect of national or other strikes which may have affected Cork.
