Vol. 418 No. 4

Written Answers. - Services for HIV-AIDS Patients.

Brendan Howlin

Question:

153 Mr. Howlin asked the Minister for Health if he will give favourable consideration to the provision of a drop-in centre in Dublin for people suffering from HIV and AIDS; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Eastern Health Board runs an AIDS Resource Centre at Baggot Street which is a drop-in centre where persons with HIV/AIDS can receive a range of services. There is a satellite clinic in Ballyfermot and further such centres are planned by the health board as part of its strategy to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. In addition there are a number of non-statutory centres catering for persons with HIV/AIDS, some of which cater specifically for drug abusers, and which provide services on a drop-in basis as required. Information about these centres is contained in a booklet published by the Dublin Aids Alliance, Avoca House, Parnell Street, Dublin 1.
