Vol. 418 No. 5

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Cotter — The need to reopen the jam-making plant, formerly Laird Foods in Drumshanbo, County Leitrim, considering that a number of growers in the north east have no market for their raspberries and strawberries; (2) Deputy O'Shea — The consequences of changes relating to qualifications for pay-related benefit for employees of Waterford Crystal, who are on short-time working hours; (3) Deputy Stagg — The condition of Brownstown national school in County Kildare, where the INTO have balloted their teachers in the school with a view to taking industrial action as a protest against the extraordinarily bad state of affairs in the school; (4) Deputy Spring — The urgent need for the completion of stage 4 and stage 5 of the central group water scheme, County Kerry; (5) Deputy G. Mitchell — The reason no house purchase scheme has been introduced since the millennium year and if the Minister for the Environment will now take steps to introduce such a scheme; (6) Deputy McGahon — The endorsement of support for the candidature of a person (details supplied) in the British election by the chairman of Bord na Gaeilge; (7) Deputy Moynihan — The closure of the Christian Brothers school, Caherciveen, County Kerry, and the impact of this decision on the future of secondary education in this area; (8) Deputy Deenihan — The major problems facing many Irish groups involved in providing emigration services in the US following the withdrawal of funding by the Irish Government for 1992; (9) Deputy Rabbitte — The implications for conduct of industrial relations of the proposed winding up of the Irish Productivity Centre; (10) Deputy Lowry — The decision of Comhairle na nOspidéal to alter the existing arrangements regarding consultancy appointments to Nenagh General Hospital; (11) Deputy T. Ahearn — The extraordinary delay in the provision of a new Garda station in Cahir, County Tipperary where the present building is in a deplorable condition.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies McGahon, Cotter and O'Shea.
