Vol. 418 No. 5

Written Answers. - Meeting with New Northern Ireland Secretary of State.

Nora Owen

Question:

7 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if, in view of the possible changes that might arise following the British general election, he will seek an immediate meeting with the newly appointed Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.

Following the British general election, I would intend in my capacity as Joint Chairman of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Conference to make contact with the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland very soon after his or her appointment. At the last meeting of the Anglo-Irish Conference, it was agreed that a meeting of the Conference would be held very shortly after the British general election. I shall have an opportunity at that meeting for an early and comprehensive exchange of views with the newly appointed Secretary of State.
