Vol. 418 No. 5

Written Answers. - Ministerial Visits Abroad.

Alan Shatter

Question:

16 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will outline the St. Patrick's Day parades in the United States in which this State was represented by a Government Minister or Junior Minister.

Enda Kenny

Question:

28 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will give details of the official location and attendance for each member of the Cabinet and junior Minister arising from duties on St. Patrick's Day, 17 March 1992; and if he will outline the estimated overall cost of these attendances.

I propose to answer Questions Nos. 16 and 28 together.

I propose to circulate to Deputies in the Official Report a table listing the 1992 St. Patrick's Day official functions abroad which were attended by Cabinet members and Ministers of State.

The cost of attendance abroad by Cabinet members and Ministers of State is charged to the votes of the individual Departments concerned. The total estimated cost of attendance at St. Patrick's Day functions by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mrs. Andrews and by the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and Mrs. Daly was £11,616.

Following is the table:

Visits Abroad by Cabinet Members and Ministers of State over the St. Patrick's Day period 1992. (Attendance by Cabinet Members at St. Patrick's Day Parades abroad is specified below. In addition to the parades, Cabinet Members and Ministers of State also attended a wide range of other functions and promotional activities connected with St. Patrick's Day.)
