Vol. 418 No. 5

Written Answers. - Radio Frequency Blocking.

Tony Gregory

Question:

76 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Tourism, Transport and Communications if her Department can assist with the difficulties being experienced by a haulage contractor (details supplied) in Dublin 9 whose radio frequency is being blocked by other operators.

In order to maximise the efficient use of the limited number of radio frequencies available for mobile radio communications systems it is the general policy of my Department to require mobile radio users to share radio channels.

My Department carried out an investigation in response to a complaint by the person referred to by the Deputy and found that another licensee who is required to share the channel was not operating his system in accordance with the terms of his licence. The licensee in question has been instructed to abide by the terms of the licence and has assured the Department accordingly.

My Department will monitor the channel to be satisfied that all licensees sharing the channel operate their systems in accordance with the terms of their licences.
