Vol. 418 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Job Creation Model.

William Cotter

Question:

10 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Finance if the Government will consider using County Monaghan as a role model for job creation in Ireland given the devlopment through local enterprise of the poultry, mushroom and furniture industries.

The primary thrust of the Government's plans for economic development and job creation is set out in the Programme for Economic and Social Progress the Programme for Government and the various operational programmes for the administration of EC Structural Funds. Additionally, the Government are currently actively addressing the question of maximising the employment creation impact of expected economic growth. I agree that the lessons learned on foot of any notable successes in enterprise development and job creation should be widely disseminated. I am satisfied that the structures which are in place already, notably those involving the IDA and the county development teams, both of which operate in County Monaghan, are adequate to ensure that experience gained in that county in the enterprise mentioned by the Deputy can be transmitted to other areas of the country efficiently and effectively.
