Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Stagg — The condition of Brownstown national school in County Kildare, where the INTO have balloted their teachers in the school with a view to taking industrial action as a protest against the extraordinarily bad state of affairs in the school; (2) Deputy Deenihan — The major problems facing many Irish groups involved in providing emigration services in the US following the withdrawal of funding by the Irish Government for 1992; (3) Deputy Lee — The plight of the care for the elderly services which are on the point of collapse in this country; (3) Deputy Nealon — The failure of United Meat Packers to maintain employer's liability insurance coverage for factory workers resulting in an employee (details supplied) who suffered an appalling and permanent injury in the Ballaghaderreen plant now being left without any compensation; (5) Deputy McCartan — The practices of a pyramid-pressure selling company (details supplied) and the steps the Minister for Industry and Commerce will take to regulate this company and others operating through unacceptable methods in view of the hardships they cause to very many families; (6) Deputy Sheehan — The necessity to have the medical and surgical equipment in Bantry hospital replaced by new modern equipment; (7) Deputy Mattie Brennan — The serious matter regarding a person (details supplied) who was employed by United Meat Packers Limited, Ballaghaderreen for a considerable length of time who had an accident at work and upon making inquiries, has ascertained that the company did not have a separate fund to cover employer liability insurance.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies McCartan, Stagg and Deenihan.
