Question:

64 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if he will declare the Penal Chapel at Caherciveen, County Kerry a national monument in order to prevent its demolition.

The Commissioners of Public Works will give consideration to the registration of the Penal Church in Caherciveen under the National Monuments Act. Kerry County Council are in the process of acquiring the church at present. The Commissioners have written to the county council recommending that it be preserved and the council's response is now awaited.
