Question:

188 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for Health if he has responded to the request from the Western Health Board with respect to the filling of two permanent posts in the psychiatric unit, University Hospital, Galway; if the full quota of permanent nurses are employed at the unit; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 181 and No. 188 together.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that my Department have recently approved the filling of two permanent placement psychiatric nursing posts for the Psychiatric Unit, University College Hospital, Galway. The Western Health Board have informed me that these posts, which are currently filled in a temporary capacity, are the only permanent psychiatric nursing vacancies at the unit at present.
