Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Home Maker Programme Funding.

Dermot Fitzpatrick

Question:

191 Dr. Fitzpatrick asked the Minister for Health if he will increase the funding for the Home Maker Programme, as it provides an excellent service for families in financial and domestic difficulties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the Home Maker Programme which is part of the overall Home Help Service operated by the Eastern Health Board in conjunction with several voluntary organisations.

The programme which provides practical assistance and encouragement is directed towards families and individuals under stress or who are experiencing domestic difficulties.

Expenditure by the Eastern Health Board on the Home Maker Programme has increased in recent years. The funding of this service is primarily a matter for the Eastern Health Board and I am satisfied that they will continue to utilise this programme as an integral part of their overall community care programme.
