Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Accommodation for Elderly.

John Bruton

Question:

234 Mr. J. Bruton, Mr. J. Mitchell and Mr. Carey asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline the nature of the shelter provided in respect of sheltered dwellings built in Ireland by local authorities for elderly people; and whether this shelter involves anything more than simply the provision of smaller units.

Accommodation provided by housing authorities for elderly persons may include, where appropriate, such facilities as alarm systems, community rooms and warden accommodation, the capital cost of which can be funded from the housing construction allocations. It is a matter for each housing authority, in the first instance, to consider whether the provision of such facilities in an individual scheme is appropriate.
