Question:266 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he intends to increase financial resources for Teagasc to offset the continuing increase in imports of fruit and vegetables which could be produced in this country.

Teagasc are in receipt of a substantial grant-in-aid, EC funds and fees from research and advisory contracts. A review of the organisation's finances, activities and priorities is under way at the present time.
The work of Teagasc and An Bord Glas is directed towards encouraging domestic production of fruit and vegetables where this is economically feasible.
