Written Answers. - Land Commission Staff Duties.

Question:

33 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the duties assigned to the staff of the Land Commission from 1987 to 1991; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Land Commission personnel have carried out the following duties between 1987 and 1991.

1. The disposal of the lands already acquired which includes the disposal of 100,000 acres of bogland and the finalisation of other land division schemes.

2. The re-arrangement of lands and the division of commonages.

3. Undertaking surveys of disadvantaged areas and inspections relating to the cereal set-aside schemes.

4. The revesting of lands in the new owners.

5. Clearance of title and payment of purchase price to the original land owners.

6. The exercise of statutory control over the subdivision of land and the purchase of land by companies and non EC nationals.

7. The promotion of group purchase and re-arrangement schemes by owners.
8. Correspondence with solicitors, tenants and the general public.
9. Miscellaneous statutory and other obligations such as the collection of annuities, custody of title documents and the responsibilities of the Office of the Public Trustee.
