Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Rural Resettlement Programme.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

89 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Taoiseach if he will outline which Minister of his Government has overall responsibility for rural resettlement; whether any budget has been set aside in any Department to assist in the rural resettlement programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Ministers for the Environment, Agriculture and Food and Social Welfare have responsibility in relation to different aspects of rural resettlement. No specific budget has been set aside for rural resettlement but it is possible that assistance might or might not be given under some existing schemes, depending on circumstances, such as the LEADER Initiative, measures in the Plan for Social Housing, the Voluntary Housing Assistance scheme, the Rental Subsidy scheme and the scheme of grants to voluntary bodies.
