Vol. 418 No. 7

Written Answers. - Lifford (Donegal) County Registrar's Office.

Patrick D. Harte

Question:

137 Mr. Harte asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the position in regard to the County Registrar's Office, the Courthouse, Lifford; if it is proposed to transfer the office; if so, who took the decision; when the decision was taken and the reason therefor; whether all members of the staff have been informed; and if he will outline the provisions which are being made to accommodate those who, for personal or other reasons, are unable to transfer to the new address.

No final decision has yet been made to relocate the Circuit Court Office in Lifford to Letterkenny.

However, it has been evident for some time that it does not make administrative sense to have the Circuit Court Office situated in a location where no Circuit Court sittings are held and which is 16 miles from its principal court venue of Letterkenny. Therefore when it was decided to extend and refurbish Letterkenny Courthouse the opportunity was taken to include accommodation for the County Registrar and his staff.

Consultations are now ongoing between officials of my Department and the County Registrar and staff of the Circuit Court Office regarding the possibility of relocating the Circuit Court Office to Letterkenny.
