Vol. 418 No. 8

Written Answers. - Waterford Company in Receivership.

Austin Deasy

Question:

27 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if his attention has been drawn to the fact that a company (details supplied) in Waterford has gone into receivership without any attempt to have an examiner appointed under the terms of the Companies (Amendment) Act, 1990; and if he will endeavour, in conjunction with the IDA, to see that it is retained as a going concern.

I share the Deputy's concern at the loss of jobs at the company in question following the appointment of a receiver. The Deputy will understand, however, that the decision to appoint a receiver rather than an examiner is a matter in which I have no function.

I can assure the Deputy that the IDA are keeping in close touch with the receiver, and every possible effort is being made to secure a take-over of the company as a going concern.
