Vol. 419 No. 1

Written Answers. - Afforestation Policy.

Gerry Reynolds

Question:

44 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Energy if, further to his recent announcement on incentives and extra grant aid for the plantation of lands, he will outline the plans, if any, he has regarding the introduction of legislation reducing the number of hectares of trees that can be planted under the present planning legislation, and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am satisfied that the current arrangements for the assessment of applications for grant aid for forestry development take environmental and other aspects fully into account, and do not see a need to seek an amendment to the planning legislation.
