Vol. 419 No. 1

Written Answers. - Oil Reserves.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

67 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Energy if he will give details of Ireland's strategic oil reserves; the amount and location thereof; whether we fully comply with EC requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

On 1 March 1992, the most recent date for which figures are available, Ireland's oil stocks as reported to the EC were 90 days petrol, 91 days gasoil and 218 days heavy fuel oil. These stocks are held by the INPC and at the oil companies at various locations around the country and by the oil companies in location abroad, and in the form of both crude and product. Ireland is meeting its stock obligations under both EC and IEA rules.
