Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Gregory — recent media revelations that up to six major international drug traffickers are conducting their operations from Ireland; the measures the Garda are taking to deal with this serious matter and the additional resources the Garda Drug Unit will have to respond effectively to this threat; Deputy Fennell — whether the Minister for Education will issue guidelines to State supported schools forbidding the use of school buildings and grounds for organising, promoting or postering functions, meetings or marches about abortion; Deputy Durkan — the failure of the Minister for Education to respond to the needs of Confey College, Leixlip, County Kildare, by way of provision of permanent buildings to replace temporary school buildings currently in use; Deputy Boylan — the reason patients in private nursing homes in Cavan are not entitled to any subvention payments from the North-Eastern Health Board, in the same way as in nursing homes generally across the country and if the Minister for Health is aware of the crisis in Cavan regarding the care of the elderly; Deputy Sheehan — the serious situation with the condition of the present Clonakilty boys' national school and if the Minister for Education will state the steps he is taking to provide a new national school for the pupils concerned; Deputy J. Higgins — the urgent need for the Minister for Education to intervene in a situation where 39 students at the College of Marketing and Design have been informed, within two weeks of their final examination, that despite clear and explicit commitments they would be awarded diplomas and a possible degree, neither will now be awarded; Deputy Quill — the ongoing negotiations between the members of the Incorporated Law Society and the Department of Justice in relation to the suspension of the operation of the free legal aid scheme in Cork; An Teachta McGinley — chun a iarraidh ar an Aire Fuinnimh gach iarracht a dhéanamh stáisiún ginte leictreachais móna Ghaoth Dobhair a choinneáil ar oscailt agus na postanna a bhaineann leis a chosaint; Deputy J. O'Keeffe — the crisis looming for agriculture shows nationwide arising from the difficulties between the Department of Agriculture and Food and the veterinary profession in the matter of the testing of cattle and if the Minister will initiate a procedure to allow individual testing of animals and the issue of special permits for exhibition purposes only; Deputy Taylor — the current closure of the deep sea section of Dubin Port; and Deputy Allen — the ongoing dispute in the free legal aid scheme which has resulted in hardened criminals being allowed to go free.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Taylor, Boylan and J. O'Keeffe.
