Vol. 419 No. 4

Order of Business.

It is proposed to have statements on the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development in Rio de Janeiro.

Does the Taoiseach propose to attend the conference in Rio de Janeiro? Will the delegation comprise of Members from all parties?

My intention is to attend that very important conference in Rio de Janeiro. At present the intention is that the Minister for the Environment, the Minister of State at the Department of the Environment and the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs will attend.

Will he consider expanding the number of delegates in view of the fact that delegations from most other countries will comprise of representatives not only from all the political parties but from non-governmental organisations?

Yes, I will consider that.

Would the Taoiseach be prepared to ask the Government Whip to realistically assess at the full Whips meeting next week the legislative programme between now and the end of June so as to enable Opposition parties to prioritise the legislation on the list that is most likely to be taken, as this will ensure we will have a better debate on the legislation?

Yes, the Whip will have a list of what will most likely be taken in so far as we can judge it at this stage.
