Question:

161 Mr. McCartan asked the Minister for Health if, in respect of each of the past five years, he will outline the number of deaths by suicide in mental or psychiatric hospital in the State.

As the Deputy will be aware coroners are currently precluded from returning verdicts of death by suicide as the question of civil or criminal liability shall not be considered or investigated at an inquest in accordance with section 30 of the Coroners Act, 1962.

The number of deaths which may be construed as being self enacted in respect of each of the past five years in psychiatric hospital is as follows:
