Vol. 419 No. 6

Written Answers. - Southern Health Board Report.

Bernard Allen

Question:

133 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Health if he has received a copy of the Southern Health Board report regarding the private business arrangement between a drugs clinic (details supplied) and individuals within the Cork Regional Hospital; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have received a report on the matter from the Southern Health Board. I am concerned that in this case the facilities at Cork Regional Hospital appear not to have been used, in respect of non-Health Act services, for the benefit of the hospital as a whole. I understand that the board have entered into discussions with the management of the private clinic to recover payment for the work performed to date and to agree a schedule of costs for future work.

I intend to write to each health board and voluntary hospital in the near future on the issues raised by this case including the need to pursue all possible income generation initiatives and to have clear agreements at local level with staff on the use of facilities to benefit the hospital.
