Vol. 419 No. 6

Written Answers. - Obstetrics Curriculum.

Dick Spring

Question:

200 Mr. Spring asked the Minister for Health if he will outline any plans he has for the inclusion in the obstetrical students curriculum of counselling courses to facilitate their aiding patients and/or patients' spouses whose children are stillborn or victims of neonatal death, and if he will provide a timetable for their commencement.

I am not aware of any concern as to the adequacy of present arrangements for training obstetrical students in counselling parents whose children are sillborn or victims of death.

This is a most traumatic time for any family and I am fully committed to ensuring that parents in such tragic circumstances are met with compassion and professionalism.
