Vol. 419 No. 7

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: Deputy Deenihan — the refusal by the Minister for Education to grant recognition to Baile an Locaigh portion of Coláiste Pheig Sayers, Ballyferriter, County Kerry; Deputy Boylan — the plight of old age pensioners who are in receipt of pensions from overseas and which have not been delivered due to the postal dispute and the steps being taken to alleviate the hardship being experienced by those people; Deputy Creed — the serious threat to employment and the rural environment as a result of the Minister's decision to suspend the scheme for the control of farmyard pollution; Deputy Therese Ahearn — the failure of the Minister for Justice to implement fully the terms of the agreement in the settlement of the courts dispute 1991; Deputy Sheehan — whether conditions covering the higher education grants scheme allow for mortgage repayments on premises, used to create applicants' parents' income, when determining their eligibility for grants; Deputy Flaherty — the nature and full extent of the radioactive pollution discovered in seaweed on the Sellafield shoreline and whether any tests have been done to ascertain levels on this side of the Irish Sea; Deputy Ryan — the disposal of 60 acres of land at Kinsealy Research Centre, County Dublin, at a price which does not represent the best return to the State; Deputy Gregory — the use of sick and diseased hares by the Irish Coursing Club at the National Coursing finals in Clonmel in contravention of licence conditions and the resulting unacceptable high level of kills at Clonmel and other coursing meetings this year, all of which is seriously damaging Ireland's image abroad.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Creed, Ryan and Boylan.
