Vol. 419 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Tony Gregory

Question:

99 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice whether Garda foot patrols currently operate on a daily/nightly basis in the Iona Road/Lindsay Road/ Whitworth Road area of Dublin 9 as a deterrent to house break-ins and other crimes.

The Garda authorities inform me that the area concerned is regularly patrolled day and night by both foot and mobile patrols from Mountjoy station. Additional patrols are also performed by the Divisional Task Force. The Garda authorities also inform me that local officers have been paying special attention to this area over the past number of months and report a substantial drop in reported crime over this period.

Question:

100 Gregory asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the number of gardaí in the Bridewell Garda station in 1991 and in May 1992; and, the number of gardaí there assigned to foot patrol duties covering the Oxmantown Road and surrounding areas of Dublin 7.

The Garda authorities inform me that the current Garda strength at the Bridewell station is 153 and that the equivalent figure for 31 December, 1991 was 146. The Garda authorities also inform me that there is one Community Garda assigned to the Oxmantown Road area on a full-time basis who patrols the area on foot regularly. In addition, there are regular foot patrols carried out in the area by gardaí from the Bridewell station.
