Vol. 419 No. 7

Written Answers. - County Kildare All-Irish Schools.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

106 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the number and location of all-Irish primary schools in County Kildare; if it is intended to increase the number of such schools in the near future; whether it is intended to improve the accommodation at any or all of the existing schools; if so, if he will outline the extent and location of any such improvements; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are two all Irish national schools in Kildare at Leixlip and Kilcock. There is no application before my Department at present seeking approval to the establishment of a new all Irish School in the county.

On 8 May, 1992 my Department authorised the authorities of Scoil Uí Dhalaigh, Leixlip to proceed with the contract for a major extension to the school comprising eight classrooms and the provision of ancillary accommodation.

My Department is in the process of acquiring a former secondary school in Kilcock as a permanent premises for the Gaelscoil. Any improvement works necessary to the building will be carried out having due regard to the available capital.
