Written Answers. - Helicopter Rescue Service.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Question:

36 Mr. J. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for Defence if he will outline the number of personnel involved in the helicopter rescue service attached to the Defence Forces; and if he will further outline the plans he has for the future of the service.

The number of Air Corps personnel qualified to carry out helicopter rescue operations is 45. Technical support for all helicopter operations including Search and Rescue is provided by 82 Air Corps personnel based in Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel.

The Minister for the Marine has overall responsibility for Search and Rescue. Future developments on Search and Rescue are a matter for his office.
