Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Coalmine.

Phil Hogan

Question:

77 Mr. Hogan asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the present status of licences granted for the purpose of extracting coal at Ballingarry, Country Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There is one current State mining lease for the extraction of coal in the Ballingarry area at present. Despite significant investment the company which holds the lease is not yet in a position to bring the mine into production. While the matter is essentially a commercial one for the company in question, I am keeping the situation under review.
