Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - County Sligo, National School.

Edward Nealon

Question:

98 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for Education if he will outline (1) when tenders will be invited for the construction of the new national school at Ballytivnan, Sligo, to replace the existing St. Edward's national school which, because of major deficiencies, is no longer acceptable to the parents as a school building for their children, (2) when it is planned that the contract for the building of the school will be signed, (3) when the actual building of the new school is expected to commence, (4) the time that will be allocated in the contract for the completion of the building and (5) when it is planned that pupils and teachers should move to the new school.

Tender documents for the proposed new National School at Ballytivnan, Sligo which will replace the existing St. Edward's premises have been completed. I have now approved the invitation of tenders for the project and the formal arrangements in this regard will be put in hands immediately.

I am aware of the urgency of this case and my Department will make every effort to ensure that the remaining formalities will be completed expeditiously. However, I am not in a position, at this point, to say precisely when a contract will be placed and when works will be commenced or be completed. The contract period proposed is 12 months.
