Vol. 419 No. 9

Written Answers. - Homemaker Programme.

John Bruton

Question:

102 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Health the reason the homemaker programme to help families under stress, which is available in Kildare, Dublin and Wicklow, is not available in Meath; and if he will outline the nature of the services provided under the programme.

I presume the Deputy is referring to the homemaker programme which is part of the overall home help service operated by the Eastern Health Board in conjunction with several voluntary organisations.

The programme, which provides practical assistance and encouragement, is directed towards families and individuals under stress or who are experiencing domestic difficulties.

The North-Eastern Health Board is currently exploring options in relation to the development of a community based programme in its area to assist parents who are experiencing difficulties and families that need specific advice. The health board expects to have such a programme in place by the end of the year.
