Vol. 419 No. 10

Written Answers. - Signposting of National Monuments.

Jimmy Deenihan

Question:

32 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to improve the signposting of national monuments; and if he has any plans to improve the existing signs.

There are plans to signpost all accessible national monuments throughout the country that are under the care of the Commissioners of Public Works. Work on a pilot scheme for the national monuments of County Kilkenny is well advanced and the signposting for these will be erected in the near future. The implementation of a programme on a national basis will proceed as resources permit. All of the national monuments sites with visitor services are signposted and the effectiveness of this signposting is reviewed on a regular basis to take into account by-pass roads and other influencing factors.

All signposting is in accordance with the criteria set down by the Department of the Environment for tourist amenity signs.
